Charles W. “Chuck” Gilbert
Charles W. “Chuck” Gilbert, 74 of Cassadaga, formerly of the tTown of Cherry Creek, passed away Friday, Dec. 24, 2021, at home.
Born April 18, 1947, in the town of Charlotte, he was the son of the late Ho-ward and Wilma Green Gilbert. He attended Cassadaga Valley Central School.
Chuck spent the majority of his working career as a dedicated self employed farmer operating, with his family’s help, the Apple Ridge Farm in South Dayton for over 30 years until the sale of the farm in 2002. The farm was awarded Dairy of Distinction and Conservation Farm of the Year by Cornell Cooperative Extension. Chuck was then employed as a truck driver for Gro Mark Farm Supply, Storer’s Container and also assisted at his son, Chuck’s collision shop. He and his wife, Darlene, presently own and operate Gilbert’s Cabins in Cassadaga.
Chuck was an active member Cherry Creek Snow Goers Snowmobile Club and served on the board. He loved to help with getting trails prepared, signed and maintained for riding, member of the Ellington Rod and Gun Club, Cassadaga Memorial American Legion and past 4-H member and leader and for eight years served on the Cherry Creek Town Board.
Chuck loved to converse with people and had a great sense of humor. He was passionate about snowmobiling, enjoyed hunting, (getting two deer from the back porch this year), fishing, “anything bigger than the bait,” boating and vacationing. He loved to be around family especially the grandkids.
Husband of 56 years to Darlene Dalrymple Gilbert, whom he married Dec. 18, 1965; father of Lisa (Larry) Tarnowski of Silver Creek, Rebecca VanKeuren of Mayville, Stephanie Monteau (Jim) Harding of East Greenbush, Charles (Sarah) of Cassadaga and William (Jessica) Gilbert of Ellicottville; grandfather of 16 and one great-gran-ddaughter; brother of Jean (Andy) Abbey of Sinclairville, John (late Evelyn) of Reynoldsville, Pa. and Robert (Kim) Gilbert of Centreville, Va. Also survived by nieces and nephews.
Visitation TODAY, Monday, 4-7 p.m. in Jordan Funeral Home, Sinclairville, where funeral services will be held Tuesday 11 a.m. Burial in Cassadaga Cemetery.
