So long work. So long sleep. So long friends and family. Here comes zombies.

Welcome to JOE Gaming Weekly, your weekly round-up of all things gaming.

Or, specifically, the one big game you should play this week, the one big piece of gaming news you need to know about, and the one big deal available to purchase this week.

So off we go!

MUST PLAY OF THE WEEK

The Gunk

A fun third-person shooter in which you play a character who has landed on an alien-planet, covered in a gunk that is corrupting the landscape and the wildlife. Thankfully, you’re equipped with a tech-glove that will suck out that gunk and help restore nature to its original state.

It isn’t a life-changing experience by any means, but it does have a nice art style, and a short campaign (maybe five or six hours?), and since it is a Day One arrival on the Xbox Games Pass, it is a nice little break from the bigger, more serious campaigns that will be littered throughout the rest of 2022.

The Gunk is available on Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One and PC right now.

BIG NEWS OF THE WEEK

Dying Light 2 will reportedly take at least 500 hours to complete

Speaking of bigger, more serious campaigns, Dying Light 2: Stay Human is almost upon us, the much-anticipated sequel to 2015’s first-person survival horror.

The expansive sequel is going to eat up A LOT of your free time, as developers Techland have confirmed that it will take over 500 hours to complete. However, don’t be too worried that you’ll have to say goodbye to your job, your sleep patterns and any loved ones in order to fully dedicate yourself to this game: the base-level completion will be “less than 100 hours”. Hooray?

Dying Light 2: Stay Human is due to arrive on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, Switch and PC on 4 February.

DEAL OF THE WEEK

Red Dead Redemption 2: Ultimate Edition

Literally one of the greatest games ever made. If you’ve never played it before, this is absolutely the best time to get it, as the Ultimate Edition will give you access to LOADS of extra stuff on top off the regular game AND access to Red Dead Online. If you have played it before, chances are it has been a while – it was originally released in 2018 – so you might want to dip back into this jaw-droppingly beautiful, violent and complex western.

Red Dead Redemption 2: Ultimate Edition is available on the PS Store until 19 January, marked down from €99.99 to €29.99.
