Dr. Juan Ruiz has joined The Hartford HealthCare Ayer Neuroscience Institute‘s Norwich and Mystic offices. Ruiz comes to Hartford HealthCare from Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital in Washington, where he worked as a multidisciplinary and interventional pain medicine specialist. His areas of clinical interest include neuromodulation, both spinal cord stimulation and peripheral nerve stimulation; ultrasound-guided pain procedures; radiofrequency ablation; verterbrogenic pain; and minimally-invasive treatment of spinal stenosis. He is fluent in Spanish. Dr. Ruiz is seeing patients at 111 Salem Turnpike, Norwich, and 100 Perkins Farm Drive, Suite 302, Mystic. For appointments in either location, call 860-572-5440. During a Norwich Arts Center monthly Board of Directors meeting, Guy Smith of Mystic was voted in for a 2-year term. He was a counselor for the hearing impaired at the Florida School of the Deaf & Blind and a manager of the Disney Institute.

Nancy D. Butler of Waterford has been presented the 2021 Woman of The Year award by The Southeastern Connecticut Women’s Network. She has been a member of SECT Women’s Network for over 25 years. Butler, founder of “Above All Else, Success in Life and Business,” a is the treasurer of Soroptimist CT Shoreline and the New England Hebrew Farmers of The Emanuel Society. Through Soroptimist in 2018, 2019 and 2020, Nancy was appointed a delegate to the United Nations for the Commission on the Status of Women.

Jewett City Savings Bank Foundation has awarded a total of $4,500 in grants to support local libraries. The Foundation awarded a $2,500 grant to Slater Library in Jewett City to purchase a metal outdoor bench, trash receptacle, and moveable signs to enhance outdoor programs and curbside service. Slater Library also received a $1,000 grant for annual support.
