Officials at University of Utah Health said the current surge of COVID-19 is having a “substantial impact” on their health system.
They said they are having to make changes to scheduled surgeries and inpatient intake because of the ongoing pandemic.

Doctors with University of Utah Health spoke specifically on their impacts in a community update Tuesday, where they said their data suggests that over 90% of cases in Utah are omicron.
Associate Professor and University of Utah Department of Orthopaedics Dr. Christopher Pelt posted on Twitter that staff is out sick and there are not enough people working.
Other officials from the school reiterated this statement, saying that although “a lot” of their staff is vaccinated and has taken full precautions, they are still increasingly getting sick.

He and other officials also noted that inpatient beds are being closed as well as some operating rooms.
Officials who spoke in the community update said that as a result, certain inpatient surgeries are being canceled and rescheduled — however, they will remain to prioritize needed surgeries and procedures.
Doctors said there have been hundreds of procedures rescheduled in some capacity since the pandemic began.
